Why did you choose to specialize in gastroenterology?

I find the human gastrointestinal tract to be fascinating because it involves multiple organ systems and can have such a major impact on a person’s wellbeing. Initially as a young physician, I was drawn to the field of gastroenterology by all the different endoscopic procedures that are in the arsenal of a gastroenterologist who can almost instantaneously diagnose and treat patients. Now as a practicing gastroenterologist, I enjoy approaching my patients’ GI ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ holistically through open dialogue, taking their whole medical and personal history into consideration before reaching a diagnosis and finding the best treatment option for them.

What are your areas of special interest and expertise within gastroenterology?

I strive to provide individualized expert care in all GI conditions such as difficulty swallowing, abdominal pain, irregular bowel habits, abnormal liver function, and cancer prevention. I also have substantial knowledge in nutrition, and whenever possible prefer to help my patients make simple lifestyle changes to treat and prevent GI disorders.

Do you have any special honors, recognition, or achievements in your medical career that you would like to share?

I was chosen to participate in the competitive Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation National Visiting IBD fellowship program at New York University School of Medicine. My wide-ranging research including topics in celiac disease, IBD, and Lynch syndrome has been published in multiple peer-reviewed journals and presented internationally.

What do you and your family enjoy doing during your spare time?

We love exploring New York City, and traveling around the country and internationally. We especially enjoy trying new cuisines from different cultures during our exploration and travels.
