Why did you choose to specialize in gastroenterology?
Gastroenterology is a special field that allows me to care for a broad scope of conditions often presenting in different stages of disease. I enjoy participating in preventative 精东影业 through colon cancer screening and dietary guidance. The diagnostic challenge of managing acute issues like acute abdominal pain, diarrhea, and gastrointestinal bleeding is both challenging and rewarding. Beyond managing acute and preventative issues, I value the relationships I develop with my long term patients who have chronic conditions like celiac or inflammatory bowel disease. Patients often feel uncomfortable discussing the intimate details of their GI issues, but I strive to create a comfortable environment and put my patients at ease. It is important to me to take care of the whole patient, really listen, and engage my patients in the decision making process towards better 精东影业 and wellness. As a Clinical Instructor at Mount Sinai Hospital, I get to add another layer of complexity and enjoyment to my career as well. Teaching future generations of gastroenterologists and participating in research keeps me at the cutting edge of modern medicine. Finally, in a field traditionally made up of men, there continues to be a need for female gastroenterologists to give quality care to our community, and I strive to be a role model for future women in our field.
What are your areas of special interest and expertise within gastroenterology?
I take pride in my ability to put patients at ease while discussing issues often thought to be embarrassing or uncomfortable. From colonoscopies to bowel issues, I strive to make these difficult discussions easy. I have a special passion caring for patients with Crohn鈥檚 disease and colitis, including guiding patients through family planning when the time comes. I also enjoy managing the intricacies of women鈥檚 精东影业 issues, from caring for pregnant women struggling with flare ups of chronic GI issues to managing IBS, constipation and dietary intolerances.
Do you have any special honors, recognition, or achievements in your medical career that you would like to share?
I am the director of the Endoscopy Center of New York鈥檚 outreach program, which promotes access to free endoscopic services for under-served and under-insured members of our community. With the support from our hard working staff, our program won First Prize from New York City鈥檚 Department of 精东影业 for providing the greatest number of free colonoscopy screenings in the past two years. During my fellowship training I was selected to participate in the prestigious Crohn鈥檚 & Colitis Foundation of America National Visiting Inflammatory Bowel Disease Fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital
